Experience Is Our Best Guru

If I can recal correctly, 1996 was the year where we thought our football team was going to achieve something. We were blessed with an abundance of talents but poor human capital skills was the big let down.

Wan Jamak at that time was rather at his prime in term of tactical know-how but in getting his players to be mentally-ready was something that shying away from him. I was one amongst millions of Malaysians who were glued in front of our TV set, waiting for our team to finish off the classy team of Thailand, led by their nation's prodigy, Kiatisuk Senamuang but our Sambagamaran-inspired team was simply second to the Thais in many aspects.

And what was the most significant one? I chose the mentality aspect among the players. Technically, we were not so lagging behind the fleet-footed Thais but the desire to win was not there for our brigade at that time. Our players seemed to shut their mind even before the final whistle was blown.

Fast forward, our current Harimau Muda showcases a different mental toughness. Never say die attitude is their root and the desire to win has put them above the rests in the region. Just look at their winning cupboards, those medals speak the language.

Kudos Harimau Muda. You are our inspiration!

When The Chips Are Down...

At times in life, we are likely to encounter situations that kill our ever-going motivation. Things that we do want them to be circling us. However, as a Muslim, we are taught to be brave enough to face this kind of obstacle. The justification is, how would we expect to garner life-enriching experience if we are afraid of these challenges?

In fact, there must be a reason on why we are caught in such a situation. May be Allah SWT is about to show us the way on how to handle things or perhaps, He may want to alert us that dangers are lurking around. On another point of view, we should embrace difficulties by turning them into every possible winning mentality because it is the only way out. Therefore, by banging out to the unnecessary is rather another oblivious reason to the downfall.

Remember, no achievement is as sweet and memorable to the one that had initially rocked us out!

Good for now, chow!

Can Malaysian Football Overcomes The Odd?

Today our Malaysian very own heroes will take on Vietnam in the group match of Asian Cup qualifying round. Malaysia is desperately in need of no less than a win and Vietnam, on the other hand, has a separate mission in ruining Malaysian ambition of qualifying in the finals in year 2013.

Can the Malaysians overcome their usual fragile mentality in tight circumstances? It is an open secret that Malaysians have got no clue on how to be a tough nut to crack as history has shamelessly substantianted this.

As a fan, I do hope that our Harimau Muda is gonna emerge victorious today and to keep the momentum in their final match against the fiery homeside of Myanmar next Monday.

...but the question is...will my hope be left as an empty hope or whether it's gonna be a great one this time around?

Wallahualammissawab.

InsyaAllah, I believe in them.

The Era of "ROCK KAPAK"...

I can still vividly recall when our capital city was swept with the trend of the 80's or better known as the era of "rock kapak".

I was barely in my senior years of my primary school but the impact brought by the trend was so deep. My elder sister, who was at her teenage years was so amazed by the presence of rock groups such as Search, Wings, Bumiputra Rockers and many more at that time.

In fact, the trend of wearing tight jeans, singlet and Aliph-branded shoes were just the "in" stuff at that time. Not to be forgotten, Central Market and Semua House were places for hang out apart from the-then famous Dayabumi.

Simply put, Rock Kapak era was simply nostalgic to me...

Victory In My Naked Eyes

Lately, we were stuffed with loads of cases and stories revolving around how should a person or an organization behave in order to avoid defeat and sad ending. Some so called "pundits" had even resorted to name calling for the sake of putting "victory matters" above anything else.

When we re-think and gather ourselves back, it is only natural that human will do everything to achieve victory and success. In most workplace, some quarters have become the greatest liar of all in order to capture greatest height. In fact, These people will play the game of "2-face" for the benefit of their own.

Meanwhile, in the world of sports, unscrupulous athletes would even commit to drug- taking in ensuring that the desired victories are theirs.

However, one tend to forget that victories are much more sweeter if it is achieved with the experience of failing. For those who are skeptical about this statement, just look around and you would see many "failures" or "no hopers" have become world-beater by now. Dr Mahathir, Safee Salee, Lee Chong Wei and the late Mahatma Gandhi, to name a few, are just people who had difficulties in the past, where can be regarded as failure by some but these people pull themselves together and succeed at the end of the day.

Thus, being a failure is not a problem but failing to identify a problem does cost a huge problem. Anyhow, we are really measured by "how we come back after being hit by a train and not how we hit the train".

When Indonesia received a drubbing...

I was a kind of shock when I heard about our two closest rivals in ASEAN soccer, Indonesia and Singapore received a thrashing from Asia's heavyweights, Bahrain and Iraq respectively. With a drubbing of 10 - 0 and 7 - 1, it triggers an alarm to us that ASEAN are still lagging behind, particularly in term of modern football's tactical approach.

For an instance, Singapore has been doing many things to improve the standard of its national team all these years, be it hiring a foreign coach, the set up of its own professional league etc. However, it seems that the efforts were not good enough to be as a force to reckon with in Asia.

Indonesia, on the other hand, is rather a yo-yo performer. At times, they can perform like a man-possessed team but they tend to fumble at a big stage. They, like Singapore, have taken several steps to strenghten its national team (naturalising a foreign player as theirs is one of the most notable steps) but still, the desired result is not coming in.

In the nutshell, Malaysia is rather better than them as our Harimau Muda boys were not that bad when they met the likes of Syria, Bahrain and Japan the other day. No drubbing like 10 - 0 or something and we had even forced the opposing teams to dig deep before they were able to beat our beloved boys.

No wonder we are the reigning ASEAN champs...
