When Indonesia received a drubbing...

I was a kind of shock when I heard about our two closest rivals in ASEAN soccer, Indonesia and Singapore received a thrashing from Asia's heavyweights, Bahrain and Iraq respectively. With a drubbing of 10 - 0 and 7 - 1, it triggers an alarm to us that ASEAN are still lagging behind, particularly in term of modern football's tactical approach.

For an instance, Singapore has been doing many things to improve the standard of its national team all these years, be it hiring a foreign coach, the set up of its own professional league etc. However, it seems that the efforts were not good enough to be as a force to reckon with in Asia.

Indonesia, on the other hand, is rather a yo-yo performer. At times, they can perform like a man-possessed team but they tend to fumble at a big stage. They, like Singapore, have taken several steps to strenghten its national team (naturalising a foreign player as theirs is one of the most notable steps) but still, the desired result is not coming in.

In the nutshell, Malaysia is rather better than them as our Harimau Muda boys were not that bad when they met the likes of Syria, Bahrain and Japan the other day. No drubbing like 10 - 0 or something and we had even forced the opposing teams to dig deep before they were able to beat our beloved boys.

No wonder we are the reigning ASEAN champs...
